Assignment 1: Reasons for Writing

Wiesel's Reasons
Elie Wiesel had many reasons for writing his memoir, Night. One reason Wiesel wrote is book is to leave behind a legacy of words, of memories, to help prevent history from repeating itself. Wiesel hopes that by spreading word of his personal account of the Holocaust he can prevent a second Holocaust. A second reason he wrote this memoir is to preserve a record of the ordeal he endured as an adolescent. Elie was barely a teenager when his life changed dramatically; he wanted to save this memoir so that future generation will never forget. The final reason Wiesel wrote this book is because he knew he must bear witness. Wiesel wanted others to witness the same things he did during this horrible experience. These are the reasons Wiesel wrote this memoir.
